First Saturday drop-off events enable busy residents to recycle tires, scrap metal and usual curbside items in one fell swoop. They also enable residents to help people in the community who are less fortunate by donating food items for a local food bank.
First Saturday of the Month drop-off events in 2021 are: Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 10,
Aug. 7, Sept. 11, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, and Dec. 4. Social distancing is required: Residents must wear facial coverings . Only one occupant per vehicle is permitted. Occupants should remain in their vehicles, but staff will be available at every station to help residents remove items.
All drop-offs are held at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane in Bridgewater from 8 a.m. to
2 p.m. Proof of Somerset County residency is required; (current driver's license, valid lease, tax bill or any other bill with a Somerset County address). Pre-registration is not required. No businesses allowed. No commercial vehicles are permitted at the First Saturday of the Month drop-off events. For information, call the Somerset County Recycling Center at (732) 469-3363.
As part of the program, residents can drop off up to eight passenger tires – with or without rims – scrap metal, used motor oil, oil filters, microwave ovens, antifreeze and usual curbside materials (newspapers; magazines; junk mail and other paper; corrugated cardboard; phone books; glass bottles; aluminum, steel and bi-metal cans), including chipboard items and plastic bottles and containers, marked #1 through #7. Chipboard includes gift, shoe, shirt and all retail boxes, as well as cereal, cookie, pasta, cake and cracker boxes, without the plastic liners. Also poster board, greeting cards, backing from writing pads, and empty, dried-out steel paint cans are accepted.

Will No Longer Accept Textiles
Effective immediately, Somerset County will no longer accept Textiles at the First Saturday of the Month drop-off. Please continue to recycle your used Textiles at any local charity donation bin.

Residents wishing to help the needy during these difficult economic times can bring canned goods and non-perishable food donations to ‘First Saturday of the Month’ drop-off events or they can put out canned goods in a plastic bag on their usual recycling pickup dates. Items are delivered to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County. Perishable items and foods in glass containers are not accepted.
