The Somerset County Green Leadership Hub was created in 2014 through a partnership with Sustainable Jersey, municipal Staff and Green Teams and the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The mission of the Hub is "to help local government entities succeed in implementing sustainability best management practices by participating in the Sustainable Jersey Certification Program."
Since its inception, the Hub has successfully hosted multiple events focused on promoting municipal collaboration, highlighting new programs and initiatives through Sustainable Jersey, and offering assistance in completing Certification. The Hub has partnered with the Somerset County Business Partnership, Ridewise, the Somerset County Agriculture Development Board, the Somerset County Energy Council, the Somerset County Park Commission, and many more internal and external agencies to provide technical guidance and assistance to Somerset County municipalities participating in Sustainable Jersey.
Currently, 19 of our 21 Somerset County municipalities are registered with the Sustainable Jersey Program, and 10 of those are certified. One of the main goals of the Hub is to assist every municipality in getting registered and ultimately certified so that we can create a sustainable Somerset County.
