ADA Curb Ramp Compliance Project

South Bound Brook Borough

Construction Announcement

This project’s construction contract was awarded to Custom Concrete Construction, Inc. on July 24 2018.  The Pre-Construction Meeting was held on August 2, 2018.   Construction completion is anticipated for early summer 2019.

Current Update (12-13-18): Construction of  new curb ramps along Edgewood Terrace (CR 610), Main Street (CR 527), and Canal Road (CR 623) has been completed.  Construction has stopped for the winter season and will commence again in the spring.  The curb ramps on Elizabeth Street (CR 621) will be constructed at that time.

Project Description

Somerset County has developed an ADA Compliance Plan to address ADA deficiencies at pedestrian facilities along County roadways.  As part of this plan, the County will be reconstructing 159 non-compliant curb ramps along Main Street (CR 527), Edgewood Terrace (CR 610), Canal Road (CR 623) and Elizabeth Street (CR 621).  Additionally, modifications to the intersection of Main Street (CR 527) & Canal Road (CR 623) and the intersection of Main Street (CR 527) & Washington Street/Cherry Street will be made to meet current ADA and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards. The project also includes the installation of high-visibility crosswalks and updated striping along these four County roadways.

This project is funded by FY2017 County Aid from NJDOT.
