Reconstruction of Amwell Road (County Route 514) from Wortman St. to Elizabeth Ave., Franklin Township, Somerset County
Somerset County has efforts underway to reconstruct Amwell Road, CR 514, because of several operational problems contributing to numerous traffic accidents along the corridor. The goals of the road work are to make the road safer and more effective by improving intersections and adding shoulders to aid with accident avoidance and aid in turning movements onto side streets and driveways. The improvements will address roadway deficiencies such as horizontal and vertical curvature impacting line of sight, pavement condition, and storm runoff collection that increase the risk of motor vehicle accidents.
This project consists of the construction of approximately 1.25 miles of roadway reconstruction and associated drainage work. The proposed roadway width is 36’ wide to provide for 2 lanes, at 11’ wide each, and 2 paved shoulders, at 7’ wide each. The roadway will widen to 46’ wide for the two signalized intersections of Metlers Road as well as Elizabeth Avenue. The two traffic signals will be modified for compliance with current State and Federal standards.
