Penelope the Powerful Parrot

An Interactive Experience for Children and Families

Richard Hall Community Health & Wellness Center’s Hope & Healing program delivers free family-centered programming to help the community mitigate the emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Penelope The Powerful Parrot is a highly interactive experience for children and adults that creatively utilizes storytelling, movement, and song to deliver a message of hope and resilience. Offered via Zoom and delivered by crisis counselors, it is free for Somerset County residents and employees. Children as young as 3, and adults up to 84, have enjoyed Penelope’s story.

Synopsis: Penelope is a colorful bird thriving in the forests of Australia. She has a full and happy life but becomes fearful when confronted with a pandemic of snakes. In her fear, her feathers lose their beautiful colors. Her despair soon turns to hope when she remembers the joys of the forest are still there for her – the sun, the sky, music, and dance – and she regains her bright colors. Accompanying her story are dances that will get you on your feet and songs to make you smile!

Access: The story is offered in Spanish and English through monthly one hour Zoom events (see schedule below) and as requested!

Individuals and Organizations: This program can be delivered individually with a child and family, or to an organized group. Activities and materials are applicable across many settings.

Educators: We can bring the Penelope Powerful Parrot in six-part curriculum to your students. Find out more below or contact us.
