Notary Public
NOTARY PUBLIC REQUIREMENTS - In order to be eligible to obtain your Notary Public from this office, you must reside or work in Somerset County. You may become a Notary Public by submitting an application and a check for $25.00 (payable to: New Jersey Treasurer) to one of your NJ State Legislators. Request your Legislator to sign your Notary Application and forward it along with the check you provided directly to the NJ Notary Public Division in Trenton on your behalf. NOTARY OATHS - Once you receive your Notary Commission Certificate, you must appear before the Somerset County Clerk's Office to take your oath. This must occur within 90 days from your Commission Date. There is a $15.00 fee to be sworn in. Please note that you may not notarize until you have been sworn in with our office.
Due to social distancing guidelines, notary oaths are being administered via Zoom. Please e-mail your name, commission number and date to notaryoath@co.somerset.nj.us to set up your Zoom notary oath.
NOTARY PUBLIC RENEWALS & CHANGES - Your commission is valid for 5 years. After 5 years, you must follow the exact procedure as described above to renew your Notary Public. If you change your name or address, you must file a name or address change form with both the state and the county that holds your commission. There is an additional $25.00 fee for the name changes.
