Jerry L. Midgette, Esq.
Election Board Administrator
Jerry L. Midgette was appointed Administrator of the Somerset County Board of Elections in June 2006. He is an election law attorney with broad experience in the election process. He has successfully represented organizations and elected officials during recounts and provided legal advice regarding various election law matters. He served as health law counsel at the prestigious law firm of Pitney Hardin. He worked for the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services as Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs and served as the Department’s chief legal officer.
Prior to joining the Department of Health and Senior Services, he served as Deputy Executive Director of the New Jersey Health Care Facilities Financing Authority, where he was responsible for developing and implementing the agency’s strategic plan and assisting healthcare providers with tax-exempt bond financing. Before that, he served as former Governor Christine Todd Whitman’s senior advisor on minority and ethnic affairs. He also was a full-time assistant professor of business law at Montclair State University.
He is a graduate of the Howard University School of Law, where he obtained his juris doctorate degree. He graduated cum laude from Park University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in management. He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was trained as a management analyst and in electronic intelligence gathering. He has been a member of the New Jersey Bar since 1987. He was appointed by Governor Whitman to serve as a member of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. He is an active member of the New Jersey Association of Election Officials and has served as the Chairman of the By-Laws Committee, Nominating Committee, and as a member of the Legal and Legislative Committee. He also served as special advisor to the President of the NJAEO. He has served as a member of the Somerset County Open Space Advisory Committee and the Economic Development Incentive Program. He is married and has two children and lives in Franklin Park in Somerset County.
