Register for a Free Disease-Management Workshop
‘Cancer: Thriving and Surviving’
SOMERVILLE – Somerset County Freeholder Sara Sooy, health department liaison, invites anyone who has been affected by cancer to attend a free six-week workshop titled “Cancer: Thriving and Surviving.” This program provides people with cancer and their caregivers the skills and knowledge they need to help play a more active role in managing their health and improving their quality of life.
The workshop begins at 5:30 to 8 p.m. will be held on Mondays beginning Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30, continuing Oct. 7 and 21. The workshop will not be held on Oct. 14, due to Columbus Day. This fun, interactive, practical and motivational course will be held at the Steeplechase Cancer Center, located at 30 Rehill Ave., Somerville. Preregistration is required.
Learn how to better manage symptoms of cancer, how to eat healthier, exercise safely, alleviate pain and fatigue, and become more independent. This program will teach participants how to set personal goals and develop skills that can help them overcome barriers and better manage their health. Participants will receive a free book titled, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” and a light dinner will be provided.
This workshop will benefit people who are battling cancer, and cancer survivors, caregivers, and the loved ones of anyone affected by cancer. Participants and their caregivers will gain a more positive outlook about their condition, and improve their state-of-mind and overall health.
This program is sponsored through a partnership with the Morris-Somerset Regional Chronic Disease Coalition, Somerset County Department of Health, and the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
