January 10, 2019- NEWS RELEASE

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Bound Brook Chief of Police Vito Bet announced the death of Terrence C. Coulanges, age 29 of Old Bridge, N.J.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on January 9, 2019, at approximately 7:36 p.m., the Middlesex Borough Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired and a gunshot wound victim at a residence on Farm Lane, Bound Brook, New Jersey.  Middlesex Borough authorities relayed the call to Bound Brook Police who responded to the aforementioned residence.  Upon arrival, Bound Brook Police officers located a male outside the residence who has since been identified as Terrence C. Coulanges, age 29, of Old Bridge, N.J., suffering from gunshot wounds. Responding officers, along with medical personnel initiated life saving measures and subsequently transported Coulanges to an area trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that detectives from Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crimes Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene, along with detectives from the Bound Brook Police Department to conduct the investigation.  Preliminary investigation has indicated that a male resident on Farm Lane and Coulanges were known to each other.  On January 9, 2019, Coulanges arrived at the residence and attempted to make contact with the male resident. It is alleged that Coulanges brandished a semi-automatic handgun and a physical altercation ensued near a patio area leading to the Carriage House, which is located towards the rear of the residence.  As a result of this physical altercation, the male resident was able to gain control of the handgun and fired at Coulanges. The investigation is being treated as an isolated incident.  The purpose and motive of Coulanges’ presence on the property is under investigation.  An autopsy is being performed by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Newark, New Jersey to determine the cause and manner of death.
