Adopt-A-Family Program Raises $22K
Generous residents once again helped make Thanksgiving special for needy families through the Adopt-A-Family program promoted by the Somerset County Board of Freeholders. Six agencies participated this year.
The Food Bank Network of Somerset County received $5,020 in donations; the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program, $8,689; the Hillsborough Food Pantry, $3,971; Feeding Hands Inc., $1,855; the Franklin Food Bank, $1,681; and the Reformed Church of Bound Brook Food Ministries, $1,161, for a total of $22,377, an average increase of more than 36 percent over last year’s donation totals.
A $40 donation, or any amount, was requested to provide a Thanksgiving meal to a family of four. Donors could designate which town their donation would go to, if they wished.
“This year we saw another tremendous outpouring of support from our residents,” said Freeholder Patricia Walsh. “Thank you for making so many families in Somerset County able to share a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!”
Since 2010, the Adopt-A-Family program has raised over $137,000, she said.
