East Hanover man arrested for theft

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Montgomery Township Police Captain/Director Thomas Wain announced the arrest of Joo Kim, age 63 of Smithfield Road in East Hanover Township, New Jersey.   

Prosecutor Robertson stated that in October of 2017, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted by the Montgomery Township Police Department regarding the reported theft of, in excess of $20,000 from the Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC.

 Prosecutor Robertson stated that the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit conducted an investigation which revealed that defendant Kim was hired by the Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line in 2014 to manage their property, located at 153 North Street in Belle Mead, New Jersey.  Defendant Kim’s responsibilities included maintenance of the property, as well as paying the quarterly real estate taxes with a check that the company would send him each quarter. Defendant Kim was to pay property taxes to Montgomery Township on behalf of the Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC. In August of 2015, defendant Kim failed to make payments to Montgomery Township for the property taxes.  From August of 2015 to October of 2016, defendant Kim failed to pay the property taxes for the Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company’s property. During this time period, defendant Kim received the sum of money required to pay these taxes from the Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company.  

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Thursday, October 11, 2018, defendant Kim turned himself into the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office where he was processed and subsequently released on a summons. Defendant Kim was charged with 3rd degree Theft by failure to make required disposition of property received.
