Somerset County Grand Jury Indicts Manville Resident for Attempted Murder and Other Crimes in Sword Attack

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announced the return of a Grand Jury Indictment charging Jared Razzano, age 35, of North 9th Avenue, Manville, New Jersey, with one count of 1st degree Attempted Murder, arising from a parking spot dispute that occurred on June 13, 2018, in Manville, New Jersey.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at approximately 10:28 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received through the Somerset County Communications Center that an assault had occurred in the area of Knopf Street and North 9th Avenue in Manville, New Jersey. Manville Police Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, officers observed a man suffering from several deep lacerations to his head and arm. The victim, identified as a male Borough resident, age 40, also had two of his fingers nearly severed as a result of the assault. The victim was transported to an area trauma center and has since been released after undergoing several surgeries.
On the scene, Manville Police Department patrol officers encountered an individual identified as Jared Razzano, who was subsequently arrested without incident. Further investigation by the Manville Police Department Detective Bureau revealed that after the victim moved his vehicle across the street, defendant Razzano attacked the victim without provocation, using an approximately 3-foot sword that was worn by defendant Razzano in cross body sheath, to do so.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that, in addition to the Attempted Murder indictment, the Somerset County Grand Jury also handed up indictments against Razzano for one count of 2nd degree Aggravated Assault, one count of 3rd degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and one count of 4th degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Defendant Razzano is currently lodged in the Somerset County Jail awaiting trial. The State will be represented at trial by Somerset County Assistant Prosecutor Annemarie Mueller.
