SOMERVILLE – Freeholder Brian D. Levine, human service liaison, wants to inform parents, caregivers and professionals who work with children and families about two different workshops that are being hosted by the Somerset County Office of Youth Services in October.

To register for either workshop, contact Gretchen Craig at or 908-704-6281.

Both seminars will be held in the first floor conference room at the Somerset County Human Services Building, located at 27 Warren Street, Somerville, NJ 08876.  Parking is available in the adjacent parking deck, third level or higher.

9 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16

Professionals who work with children and families will learn about subtypes of intimate partner violence abusers from empirically-derived data and hear a detailed discussion about assessment, treatment and interventional implications. The keynote speak will be Anthony Tasso, Ph.D., chair and associate professor, Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The program fee is $20. Cash or checks will be accepted; checks should be made payable to Friends of Somerset County Youth.  Professional development credits will be made available.  Registration and a light breakfast will open at 8:30 a.m.

This program is sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Youth Services Commission.

6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24

This workshop is designed to help parents, caregivers and adults become more aware of the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships among youth. Arianna Cohen, prevention coordinator of Zufall Health Sexual Assault Support Services, will give participants tools they can use to open communication lines between youth and adults and to help young people establish healthy boundaries in relationships.  She also will share information about where teens can turn for help when a relationship becomes controlling or violent.

This program is sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the county Office of Youth Services and Zufall Health Center.
