Somerset County Sexual Assault Response Team
(SART)
| Somerset County offers victims of sexual assault the
services of a highly specialized team. The Sexual Assault Response Team
includes a law enforcement officer (to investigate the incident), a rape
care advocate (to provide information and support) and a sexual assault
nurse examiner (SANE) (to perform the medical/forensic examination).
The SART uses a team approach in providing compassionate, comprehensive medical care, emotional support, information, assistance, evidence collection and investigation of alleged incidents of sexual assault. The victim of sexual assault is eligible for SART services when the following criteria are met:
Victims may request one, two or all three SART members to be activated. Victims may activate the SART by calling 911 or by contacting their local police department, Somerset Medical Center Emergency Department (908-685-2900) or the Sexual Assault Support Services Hot Line (908-526-7444).
