The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is collecting Toys for Tots at the county administration building in Somerville through Dec. 18.

The County Clerk's Office will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Holiday Notes
County offices will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Recycling pickups in North Plainfield and Green Brook have been rescheduled to Dec. 28. Recycling will be collected as scheduled in Warren, Watchung, Martinsville and Thomae Park on Dec. 24.

The Surrogate’s Office is collecting gift cards for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center.

Volunteers are needed to tutor school children who need help with their studies. There is a waiting list of children needing tutor assistance.

Household batteries no longer will be collected with curbside recycling, effective Jan. 1, 2010.

Starting Jan. 4, 2010, small businesses in Somerset County may bring their recyclables to the county Recycling Center.

Food Donations Needed
Residents may bring donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food to any First Saturday of the Month Recycling Drop-off. The next one is Saturday, Jan. 9.

In these difficult economic times, this season brings tremendous challenges for families trying to make ends meet. The Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center remains available to Somerset County residents in need of affordable counseling and treatment to help cope with the stress and anxiety of the holidays.
