2010 County Budget
The Board of Freeholders is proposing a no-tax increase county budget for 2010. Introduction on April 6 will be followed by a public hearing on April 27.

The Somerset County Health Department now provides public health-related services to five municipalities, saving close to $300,000. Four more are scheduled to come on board in April.

The Board of Freeholders this week honored Grace Gurisic, who became the first woman freeholder in Somerset County 50 years ago at age 26. Her recognition came as part of Women’s History Month.

Crisis Counseling Available
The Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center provides crisis counseling and ongoing treatment for Somerset County residents who have experienced a disaster-related trauma and for those who are struggling to cope with the recent economic downturn. Call toll-free: 1-888-744-4417 and follow the prompts for the Assessment Center. Additional information about free support groups around New Jersey offered by the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey is available at http://www.umdnj.edu under News / Events.

Hazardous Waste Drop-off
The first Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off for 2010 will be held March 27 at the Bernards Township Public Works Garage. The program is free to Somerset County residents and farmers.

"Achieving Personal Balance," a free eight-week program for military women, starts March 30 in Hillsborough.

‘Safe Night’ for Teens
Somerset County teenagers in grades 7 through 12 are invited to register by April 9 for the “Safe Night” program to be held April 17 at the Vo-Tech High School.

Nominations are being accepted through April 12 for “Profiles of Positive Aging” recognition during Older Americans Month in May.
