Photo IDs for Veterans
Veterans may obtain a photo ID, free of charge, by filing an original DD Form 214 with the County Clerk's Office. Proof of residency will be required.

Sign up for the Consumer Protection Division's mailing list to be notified when the county's 2012 document-shredding dates and locations become available.

Ballpark Community Box
Requests are now being accepted to use the 30-seat community box at the TD Bank Ballpark. To be eligible for the drawing, applicants should be nonprofits whose client base consists of at least 50 percent Somerset County residents or community organizations that are located in Somerset County or have a facility based in Somerset County that serves the citizens of Somerset County.

Vo-Tech Open House
Somerset County Vo-Tech High School will hold its annual Open House on Saturday, Feb. 4. Snow date is Feb. 11.

Saturday Recycling Drop-off
The next First Saturday of the Month recycling drop-off program will be held Feb. 4 at the Somerset County Recycling Center in Bridgewater.

Food Donations Needed
Please bring a canned or boxed food item to any First Saturday of the Month recycling drop-off. The Food Bank Network’s supplies are still low, so all donations will be appreciated.

You can still recycle your Christmas tree at one of two Somerset County parks through January 31.

Get ready for winter and other potential emergencies. Sign up for the state’s NJ Alert email-notification system or the NJ Special Needs Registry at www.njalert.gov To receive free email bulletins when Somerset County roads or programs are closed due to inclement weather, click here.

February Holiday Notes
County offices will be closed Feb. 13 for Lincoln’s Birthday and Feb. 20 for Washington’s Birthday/Presidents’ Day. However recycling collections will be affected only for Presidents’ Day; pickups in Branchburg and Raritan will instead be made on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Hazardous Waste Day
Mark your calendar! The first Household Hazardous Waste drop-off of 2012 will be held Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bernards Township Public Works Garage.

Funds are available to eligible low- or moderate-income residents who need to make necessary renovations to their homes.

The Somerset County Homelessness Trust Fund Rental Assistance Program is designed to help clients increase their chances of maintaining permanent housing within Somerset County.

The Somerset County Cancer Coalition is urging women to take steps to protect themselves from cervical cancer and infections.

The Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center provides counseling and ongoing treatment for Somerset County residents who are struggling to cope with the recession, military deployment or other issues. Call toll-free: 1-888-744-4417 and follow the prompts for the Assessment Center. Adults age 60 and above are invited to sign up for Zumba Gold classes at Quail Brook Senior Center in Franklin. The six-week program starts Feb. 1.
