January Recycling Notes
County offices and the Recycling Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Curbside collection for residents of Bernards Township will be on Tuesday, Jan. 17. All other curbside pickups will be as regularly scheduled.

Planning Board Reorganization
The Somerset County Planning Board will hold its annual reorganization meeting Jan. 17. Land Development & Planning Awards also will be presented.

Donations for the Homeless
The annual “Point in Time” survey of the county’s homeless residents will take place later this month. You can help by donating new clothing, blankets, towels, bottled water and juice boxes, nutritious snack foods and personal-care items by Jan. 19.

You can recycle your Christmas tree at one of two Somerset County parks now through January 31.

Food Donations Needed
Please bring a canned or boxed food item to any First Saturday of the Month recycling drop-off. The Food Bank Network’s supplies are still low, so all donations will be appreciated.

Greenbrook Road
East Greenbrook Road between Sebrings Mills/Greenbrook Road and Cramer Avenue in Green Brook is closed as part of the flood-control construction project. The Sebrings Mills/Greenbrook Road bridge over the brook remains open, but with a lane shift. Expect minor delays.

Environmentally Friendly Recycling Trucks
Somerset County is continuing its commitment to “go green” with the purchase of four environmentally friendly replacement trucks for the Somerset County Recycling Division’s fleet.

Electronics Waste
Did you know you can properly dispose of computers and related equipment and accessories at the county’s First Saturday of the Month drop-offs in Bridgewater? Also, Newtech Recycling Inc. in Franklin accepts weekday e-waste disposal. Both are free for Somerset County residents.

Hazardous Waste Day
Plan ahead! The first Household Hazardous Waste drop-off of 2012 will be held Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bernards Township Public Works Garage.
