WARREN TOWNSHIP

Did You Know…?

The town was named after General Joseph Warren who was a hero of the Battle of Bunker Hill during the American Revolution.  The township is nestled in the Watchung Mountains.  Throughout the 19th century, Warren was known for its mining of metal ores, particularly copper ore.  The ore from Warren’s mine supplied the Union’s armies during the Civil War.  Since the latter part of the 19th century, Warren’s mining efforts have turned toward rock and clay mining.  The township remained mostly rural and agricultural through World War II.   Currently, Warren Township is 19.3 square miles and has a population of 14,259.  Learn More…
