South Bound Brook occupies a section of southern Somerset County that contains some of the oldest settlements in New Jersey. The area in and around South Bound Brook was the backdrop for several skirmishes and encampments during the American Revolution. The most significant military campaign, known as the Battle of Bound Brook, took place in April 1777.   With the opening of the Delaware and Raritan Canal in 1834, South Bound Brook became a commercial and industrial center. At one time it was recognized as the busiest port on the canal.  The development of railroads caused the decline of the canal however.  The borough was incorporated in 1907.  Learn More…
