BOROUGH OF MILLSTONE

Did You Know…?

The Millstone Historic District was listed on the State Register of Historic Places in 1974 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.  Once known as Somerset Courthouse, Millstone was the county seat in 1738 and remained so until British raiders destroyed the courthouse and jail in 1779. In January 1777, following the Battles of Trenton and Princeton, Washington and his troops marched through Millstone on their way to Morristown.  During this time, Washington stayed at the Van Doren’s house while his troops camped in the fields south of the parsonage.  Millstone is the smallest municipality in Somerset County.  It has a population of 410 and is .60 square miles.  Learn More…
