Did You Know…? Chartered by King George II of England in 1749, and incorporated in 1899, Bridgewater is a modern suburban municipality with a balance of residential and commercial uses. The 32-square mile township includes the villages of Martinsville, Finderne, Bradley Gardens, Green Knoll, Somerville Manor and Sunset Lake. During the Revolutionary War, the Americans made two separate military encampments in Bridgewater. The first took place in 1777 and lasted for 35 days. The second encampment during the winter of 1778-79 is known as the ‘Middlebrook Encampment.’ The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over time, one of the industries that developed in Bridgewater was copper mining, with several mines in the township functioning from the 18th century through the early 20th century. Bridgewater is currently home to the Bridgewater Commons Mall. Learn More…
