The Jacobus Vanderveer House is the last surviving building associated with the Vanderveers, a family prominent in Bedminster Twp. history from its earliest settlement through the 19th century. According to tradition, it served as headquarters for Gen. Henry Knox during the winter of 1778-79, when the American artillery was in the village of Pluckemin during the Second Middlebrook Encampment. It is an excellent example of a Dutch-American house.
