SOCIAL SERVICES: Your child will see a Social Worker who
will help him/her adjust to living in the youth Detention Center and who
will be your contact person. The Social Worker will be the contact
person for your child’s lawyer and other professional people. You may
call your child’s Social Worker as needed, by dialing 732-297-8991 EXT
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES: Your child will be assigned to a
school group and will be expected to attend and participate in all
scheduled classes to the best of his or her ability. If your child is
currently enrolled in public school, he or she will be given credit for
the work he or she does in the Juvenile Detention Center.
Visitors are required to arrive 15 minutes before visits begin and
to present picture identification. If you are late, you will not
be allowed into visits, as the doors are locked so that visitors can be
processed and seated.
TUESDAYS: Residents with last names A – K 2:30 PM – 3:30PM:
2 ADULTS: parents, guardians, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts
and uncles over 18 years of age; 7:00PM – 7:30PM:

WEDNESDAYS: Residents with last names L – Z 2:30 PM –
3:30PM: 2 ADULTS: parents, guardians, grandparents, brothers,
sisters, aunts and uncles over 18 years of age; 7:00PM –
7:30PM: Parents or Guardians ONLY
THURSDAYS, HONOR VISITS**: 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM Visits for residents
on the Honor Level (Phase 3) (2 persons: parents, guardians,
grandparents, siblings, cousins and friends over 12 years of age. An
adult must accompany visitors between the ages of 12 and 17.) **IN
ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR AN HONOR VISIT: The resident must be in the
Juvenile Detention Center for at least 20 days with very good behavior.
Please contact a Social Worker to confirm that the juvenile you wish to
visit is eligible for an Honor Visit.
SATURDAYS: Residents with last names A – D (parents, guardians,
and grandparents ONLY) 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM
Residents with last names E – K (parents, guardians, and grandparents
ONLY) 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
SUNDAYS: Residents with last names L – R (parents, guardians and
grandparents ONLY) 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM
Residents with last names S – Z (parents, guardians and grandparents)
2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Only two visitors per resident are permitted and there will be no
sharing a visit.
Former residents of the Juvenile Detention Center are not allowed to
Visitors must leave handbags and other personal belongings, including
cell phones and beepers, in their cars. Nothing can be brought into the
visiting area. Any clothes or personal items being brought for a
resident must be dropped off at the Discharge Area at Central Control.
No food or drinks are permitted into the facility.
No children are allowed in the building during visitation. Visitors are
requested to leave children at home or in the public lobby with the
direct supervision of a responsible adult.
PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS: The Center provides all regular hygiene
items to residents of the facility. With the exception of 2 bars of
soap, no other items from home will be accepted without the prior
approval of the detention center physician.
CLOTHING: Residents may ONLY have one pair sneakers (no boots), 3
white tee shirts, 3 pair of white socks, 2 sets of white or cream
thermal underwear, 3 pair underpants, 3 bras (no underwires) and one set
of clothes to wear to court. Please mark all clothing items with a
permanent marker, using the resident’s full name. Clothing can be
dropped off at the Discharge Area any day between the following hours:
7:30AM – 9:00AM; 1:00PM – 2:30PM and 7:30PM to 9:00PM.
PERSONAL ITEMS: Residents are permitted to have self adhesive
stamps, writing paper, playing cards and 2 paperback books or magazines
appropriate in nature.
PHONE CALLS: Your child may make collect phone calls at
designated times during the day and evening. If you would like to use a
credit card to set up a pre-paid phone account for your child, please
call 800-483-8314 and follow the prompts.
Your child will be allowed to make a five five-minute phone call home to
a parent/guardian through a Social Worker once a week. Incoming phone
calls are not allowed except in special circumstances and approved
beforehand by your child’s social worker.
MAIL: Your child may mail out two letters a week to family and
friends without needing a stamp. Incoming mail is distributed once a
day, Monday through Friday, except on holidays. Self-adhesive stamps may
be brought to facility for your child and left for a Social Worker to
hold for your child’s future use.
DROPPING OFF PERSONAL PROPERTY: Personal property can be dropped
off at the Discharge Area any day between the following hours: 7:30AM –
9:00AM; 1:00PM – 2:30PM and 7:30PM to 9:00PM.
PICKING UP PERSONAL PROPERTY: Former residents may pick up their
personal property between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Monday
through Friday. Unclaimed property will be disposed of 30 days after
DIRECTIONS: Take Route 22 to Route 287 South. Follow 287
approximately 4.4 miles to Exit 9 (River Road, Highland Park). Bear
right after the exit and travel along River Road for 3.3 miles to the
5th traffic light. Turn right at this light onto Route 18 South. Take 18
South 3.1 miles (you will go through 2 lights). 0.2 miles past the 2nd
light, you will exit right onto Route 1 South. Travel 2.2 miles to Route
130 (Camden) exit on the right. Bear left and cross over Route 1 on to
Continue on Route 130 through 3 traffic lights. After the 3rd light, get
in to the left lane and continue approximately 1 mile. You will see a
green and white sign on your right that states Board of Chosen
Freeholders – Office of the County of Middlesex. Right after this sign,
you will make a left turn (through the median) on to Apple Orchard Lane.
Make the 1st left off Apple Orchard Lane, which brings you on the Youth
Services access road. The Juvenile Detention Center is the gray building
ahead of you.
Take Route 287 to Exit 10
(Easton Ave). Follow Easton Avenue to Franklin Boulevard (approximately
2 miles). Mike a right on Franklin Boulevard (this road changes names
several times and eventually turns into Bennetts lane). Follow this road
for about 4 miles to the end. Make a right on Route 27. Follow Route 27
to the first traffic light (Wawa is on the corner). Make a left on
Cozzens Lane. Follow this road to Route 1. Cross over Route 1. You are
now on Adams Lane. Follow Adams Lane until in intersects with Route 130.
Make a right on to Route 130. The detention center is about a mile down
Route 130 on the left had side of the road. Make a left through the
median on to Apple Orchard Lane. Make the first left into the parking
area. The Juvenile Detention Center is the large gray building.
