The Department of Human Services is responsible for administration, management, planning, coordinating and monitoring various human services, including aging, community development, mental health, youth, juvenile detention, veterans and volunteer services.

The Department of Human Services, is responsible for various councils and advisory committees to promote the social well-being of county residents and increase public awareness regarding mental health, aging, youth services, community development, alcoholism and drug abuse, workforce development, and services for the disabled.
