The Department of Human Services is responsible for administration, management, planning, coordinating and monitoring various human services, including aging, community development, mental health, youth, juvenile detention, veterans and volunteer services.

The Division of Human Services, which falls under the Department, is responsible for various councils and advisory committees to promote the social well-being of county residents and increase public awareness regarding substance abuse, mental health, alcoholism and drug abuse, and services for the disabled.
