Registered Environmental Health Specialist: Registered Environmental Health Specialist play a key role in public health within local government. REHS personnel look after food safety, enforce public health and safety regulations, and act as pollution regulators for small scale industry. In addition, they play a key role in raising housing standards in the private rented sector.

Public Health Planner/ Practice Standards Partnership Coordinator: The primary responsibility of the public health planner is to facilitate the development of a countywide Public Health Emergency Response Plan, to better prepare Somerset County's response capabilities to communicable disease outbreaks or even potential bioterrorist threats. In addition, work will focus on the enhancement of public health service delivery in the county.  The Practice Standards Partnership Coordinator is responsible for identifying, convening and facilitating the organization of public health system partners and provides leadership and support for establishing and operating county wide governmental and community public health partnerships for the advancement of the NJ Practice standards and public health preparedness and response.

LINCS Coordinator: The LINCS Coordinator maintains and enhances the Local Information Network and Communications System (LINCS) under the direction of the NJDHSS. The Coordinator also assists the other LINCS Team members in the ongoing efforts to update and enhance Somerset County's bioterrorism preparedness and planning efforts.

Sr. Registered Environmental Health Specialist: Under direction of the Health Officer, takes the lead over other Registered Environmental Health Specialists and performs inspection work involved in the enforcement of State and local environmental and health regulations including, but not limited to the State Sanitary Code for food establishments, public pools, State Housing Code, Department of Environmental Protection regulations; Epidemiological case investigation and monitoring; and lead-hazard risk assessments.

Public Health Inspector (solid waste): Responsible for ensuring compliance with NJDEP regulations, as they pertain to the County Environmental Health Act, specifically in the areas of solid waste control and air pollution. Monitors solid waste & recycling disposal and transportation within the County and responds to allegations of improper disposal. Performs routine inspections at regulated solid waste facilities, including transfer stations, recycling facilities, compost and leaf mulching operations, and citizen drop-off sites. Also conducts routine inspections of permitted air pollution facilities, as needed.

Public Health Inspector (water): Responsible for ensuring compliance with NJDEP regulations, as they pertain to the County Environmental Health Act, specifically in the areas of water and air pollution. Conducts routine inspections of public, non-community water systems, reviews laboratory analyses of water quality, reviews requests for system modifications and provides technical guidance. Investigates citizen complaints involving air & noise pollution, and assists in solid waste enforcement as needed. NJDEP-certified in Community Noise Enforcement, Odor Field Enforcement & Visible Emissions Enforcement.

Investigates citizen complaints involving air and noise pollution. Monitors solid waste & recycling disposal and transportation within the County. Performs routine inspections at regulated air pollution facilities, including dry cleaners, paint shops, and emergency generators. Develops and maintains the Department's GPS and GIS activities. NJDEP-certified in Community Noise Enforcement & Odor Field Enforcement.

Environmental Health Coordinator: Responsible for oversight of the inspection, investigation and enforcement activities relevant to the County Environmental Health Act. Reviews daily field reports, issues enforcement notices to violators of the Act, conducts settlement conferences and supervises field investigators. Prepares the CEHA Annual Report and maintains regular dialogue with the NJDEP regarding program goals & the development of a long-term environmental improvement plan.

Public Health Nurse: The Public Health Nurse is responsible for managing the daily public health nursing activities for the performance of core public health functions and the delivery of the "10 essential public health services" at N.J.A.C. 8:52-3.2(a) 1 through 10, and shall ensure the coordination of public health nursing services which are delivered by all agencies in Somerset County as described in its Community Health Improvement Plan so as to identify gaps, provide continuity os services, and reduce duplication.

Responsibilities include: Providing public education on risks of smoking and environment tobacco smoke (ETS).  To increase and record the number of ETS complaints, respond and assistance in resolution of complaints.  To increase the number of municipalities which have restrictions on sale, promotion and use of tobacco/related products. Encourage worksites, restaurants and public places to become smoke free. Acts as a resource within communities providing assistance and referrals for quitting.
