To ensure
compliance with NJDEP air
pollution regulations, CEHA inspectors conduct routine inspections of
facilities throughout the County including, but not limited to, dry cleaners,
gas stations, auto body shops and any site with combustion equipment that meets NJDEP’s
criteria for a “minor source” contributor to air pollution. This equipment
includes certain large boilers, heaters and emergency generators.
CEHA inspectors also respond to citizen
complaints of outdoor air pollution involving odors, open burning, dust
pollution, and idling vehicles. In 2005, through a new NJDEP initiative to
reduce diesel emissions, CEHA inspectors have begun routine surveillance for
