* As a result of grant funding from the Federal government, distributed through the NJ State Department of Health and Senior Services, the staff has been hired to upgrade regional local public health preparedness for and response to bioterrorism, other outbreaks of infectious disease, and other public health threats and emergencies. Steps to improve the response capabilities of Somerset County include: development of enhanced disease surveillance system; community education; expanded communication abilities with healthcare professionals in the community; and development of a public health emergency response plan.
