Reconstruction of Readington Road (County Route 637) from Dreahook Road to Harlan School Road, Branchburg Township, Somerset County, Readington Township, Hunterdon County
1/13/17: Construction work in the upcoming weeks will include PSEG gas main and service work continuing, overhead utilities setting new utility poles, and the general contractor working along the roadside installing silt fence and removing stumps. Single lane closures with police flagger from 9:00am to 4:00pm can be expected which may cause delays at times.
Major construction activity will begin in March 2017 with an anticipated full road closure in mid-March 2017. That road closure is expected to be for 3 to 4 months with a road opening occurring in late June 2017 or early July 2017. Construction will then continue for another 1-2 months with work being performed with daytime lane closures.
The road will be open for the weekend of the Balloon Festival for the last weekend of July 2017. Due to the shutdown on the project, the completion date will change from July 2017 to October 2017.
The County will send out an update on this project to the public via its website and will provide updates as necessary. (Posted 11/2/16)
Somerset County has efforts underway to reconstruct Readington Road, CR 637, because of several operational problems contributing to numerous traffic accidents along the corridor. The goals of the road work are to make the road safer and more effective by improving intersections and adding shoulders to aid with accident avoidance and turning movements onto side streets and driveways. The improvements will address roadway deficiencies such as severe vertical curvature impacting line of sight, pavement condition, and storm runoff collection that increase the risk of motor vehicle accidents.
This project consists of the construction of approximately 1.05 miles of roadway reconstruction and associated drainage work. Curbs are to be installed along all residential properties. The proposed roadway width is 36’ wide to provide for two lanes, each 11’ wide, and two paved shoulders, 7’ wide. The roadway will widen to 41’ at the intersection of Baird Road for the addition of a left turn lane. A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Baird Road.
The project will also include the replacement of County Bridge C0802 located just north of the intersection of Baird Road.
ConstructionConstruction is planned to start in the Summer of 2016 and continue through to Summer of 2017.
