TRADE NAMES
REGISTERING A TRADE NAME -
All new businesses established in Somerset County must file a Trade
Name with the County Clerk. Cost of filing is $50.00, payable by cash
or money order made payable to the Somerset County Clerk. Forms may be
obtained from this office, downloaded from this website, or purchased
at any stationary store that sells legal forms. The original and 2
copies are required for filing and a Notary Public or an attorney must
acknowledge the completed forms. Trade names may be filed in this
office in person or via mail. It is your responsibility to check the
availability of your requested business name in the County Clerk’s
record room.

DISSOLUTION OF A TRADE NAME –
Any business that is being dissolved must file with the County Clerk.
The cost of filing is $25.00, payable by cash or money order made
payable to the Somerset County Clerk. Forms may be obtained from this
office, downloaded from this website, or purchased at any stationary
store that sells legal forms. The original and 2 copies are required
for filing and a Notary Public or an attorney must acknowledge the
completed forms. A copy of the trade name certificate from the
business being dissolved is required.
