Vehicle Extrication Courses


These are all of the vehicle extrication courses that have been offered by the SCESTA over the years, detailing the description, prerequisites and equipment needed.  To see which ones will be offered in upcoming months, follow the link to Upcoming Training Courses.  If you see a course below that is not being offered in the upcoming months, call us to see if we can arrange for the course to be run at the Academy or your station.


 Basic Vehicle Extrication (7.5 hours)     (Not Offered This Semester)

 Vehicle Extrication – Awareness Level (3 hours)     (Not Offered This Semester)

 Vehicle Extrication –Level I Combined with Hybrid Vehicle Awareness (8 hours)

Course Number: A1415-12

Description: We pattern our course after the NFPA requirements for rescue operations. This course provides the student with a basic understanding of; Unit preparation, crew assignments, scene size-up, vehicle stabilization, tool use, disentanglement and patient removal. In addition the course will cover new car design, new car metals, vehicle electrical systems and hybrid vehicle power systems.


Vehicle Extrication – Operations Level (8 hours)

Course Number: C1415-12

Description: The operations level will cover: Size-up existing and potential conditions, identifying victim locations, making the area safe by stabilization of the vehicle and isolation of the hazards, dealing with fuel release, victim protection, victim access, disentanglement of victims, mitigation of special hazards. This is a hands on course.


Vehicle Extrication – Technician Level (8 hours)

Course Number: D1415-12

Description: This course will deal with: Advanced stabilization, using specialized equipment, dealing with cars under and over other cars, cars over obstructions, cars on embankments, light trucks, floor removal and tunneling. This is a hands on course.
