Solid Waste & Recycling

The Somerset County Department of Health is the lead agency in Somerset County for enforcement of the New Jersey Solid Waste Management Act.  CEHA inspectors ensure that the collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste in Somerset County is conducted in an environmentally safe manner.  In doing so, compliance with both NJDEP regulations and the County’s Solid Waste Management Plan are evaluated.  The CEHA staff conducts routine inspections of facilities that collect solid waste and monitor the safety and integrity of the transportation vehicles used to move materials.

Commercial facilities are also inspected for compliance with recycling regulations.  Recycling is mandatory in the State of New Jersey and recent initiatives by the NJDEP have sought to increase compliance throughout the State.

Effective Monday, July 7, 2008, the Somerset County Health Department will conduct A-901 exempt hauler interviews. Interested companies should call (908) 231-7155 and request an appointment.
